Our Buying Policy and Environmental Responsibilities
We know it is important to buy locally where possible and we do our best to ensure we buy the best quality produce on offer from local producers and suppliers. Buying locally means less "food miles" which minimises CO2 emissions. It also reduces the need for packaging as food transported less distance requires less protection.
We use seasonal, fresh, locally produced and sourced ingredients where ever possible. The fruits and vegetables we buy have often been picked that same day. We ensure as far as possible that our food is produced using ethical farming techniques. We identify the local source, breed of animal and rearing conditions of our meat. The Fish buying policy has been drawn up in conjunction with recent publications of the Marine Conservation Society to minimise environmental concerns. Wherever possible, fish is supplied from non-depleted stocks and from businesses using sustainable fishing methods. Our produce board by the entrance lists some of our local suppliers, we are lucky enough to have our own farm so when we say local we sometimes mean the field next door!
We minimise our food waste by cooking meals freshly to order. We are also careful not to over-order from our suppliers, which sometimes means at busy times we sell out of popular dishes.
All the fat we use in our fryer is converted into fuel by a local business. Our vegetable waste is composted in our garden together with egg shells, egg boxes, tea bags and coffee grouts. We also take our glass bottles, plastic containers, cardboard boxes and newspapers to the local recycling centre.
We are replacing lightbulbs with energy saving bulbs where possible and we ensure our electrical appliances and equipment is regularly maintained so that they work as efficiently as possible.
Andy and our kitchen team take great care in the preparation and presentation of your food so that it is as fresh as possible. At busy times this may mean you wait slightly longer but we are confident the wait will be worth it and your patience will be rewarded with great tasting local food. Jane and our front of house team will do their best to ensure you have an enjoyable experience.
